Law enforcement agencies must send sexual assault examination kits to an accredited laboratory within 30 days of collection, coordinating with the Department of Public Safety or using a state-operated laboratory.

Laboratories must conduct serological or DNA testing on sexual assault examination kits within six months of receipt, reducing the previous one-year timeline.

Law enforcement agencies must make reasonable efforts to notify the victim within two weeks after the laboratory completes testing on their sexual assault examination kit.

The act takes effect July 1, 2021.
