Licensed dentists may not advertise themselves as specialists using the term "specialist," specialty names, or similar phrases unless they hold a specialist license in that specific dental branch.

Specialist license applicants must hold a current dental license and meet additional qualifications for their chosen specialty as established by the state dental board through regulation.

The dental board shall consider qualifications necessary for specialty certification by nationally recognized certifying entities approved by the board when determining specialist license requirements.

Dentists with specialist licenses are restricted to practicing only in the dental branch for which they hold the specialist license.

The board may suspend or revoke specialist licenses following the same grounds and procedures used for other dental license disciplinary actions.
