AK SJR21

Changes the Attorney General from an appointed position (subject to legislative confirmation) to an elected position voted on by qualified voters at the same time and for the same term as the governor.

Requires the Attorney General to be a U.S. citizen, qualified voter of Alaska, resident of Alaska, and active member of the organized state bar.

Limits Attorney General to two consecutive full terms, with eligibility to run again only after one full term has intervened.

Establishes procedures for filling vacancies through special elections held 60-90 days after a vacancy occurs, with gubernatorial appointment authority to fill the vacancy until election results are certified.

First election for an elected Attorney General shall occur at the first general election for governor held after the constitutional amendment takes effect; proposed amendments must be approved by voters at the next general election.
