SR 1 - Senate Special Committee on the Railbelt Electric System

• Establishes a Senate Special Committee on the Railbelt Electric System to review reports and recommendations from the Regulatory Commission of Alaska regarding the interconnected utility system serving more than 565,000 Alaska residents.

• The Railbelt electric system comprises six interconnected utilities providing generation, transmission, and delivery of electricity from Fairbanks south through the Matanuska-Susitna valleys, Anchorage, and Kenai Peninsula to Kenai, Homer, and Seward.

• Committee is directed to evaluate the Regulatory Commission of Alaska's findings and recommendations for improving reliability, security, and providing economic savings to rate payers through cooperative utility operations.

• Senate President determines committee membership, appoints members, and designates a chair; committee may meet during and between sessions of the Thirty-First Alaska State Legislature.

• Committee terminates upon the convening of the First Regular Session of the Thirty-Second Alaska State Legislature.
