HB 168 Summary

• Requires the Department of Health to establish electronic application processes for all assistance programs it administers and allow applicants to submit either written or electronic applications through the department's Internet website.

• Electronic applications must inform applicants that false statements on applications will be investigated and are punishable under AS 11.56.210 (making false statements).

• Applies to assistance programs including general relief, the Alaska temporary assistance program, day care benefits, food stamps, the Alaska affordable heating program, and cash assistance for seniors.

• Defines "electronic application" as an application for benefits or benefit renewals that the department administers exclusively or in coordination with other state or federal agencies, completed and submitted electronically.

• Takes effect July 1, 2022, with the Department of Health authorized to adopt necessary regulations beginning immediately under the Administrative Procedure Act.
