CS for House Bill 245(STA) - Political Contribution Limits

• Establishes individual annual contribution limits to candidates: $1,500 for governor/lieutenant governor, $1,000 for state senate, $700 for state house and municipal offices, constitutional convention delegates, and judges seeking retention.

• Sets individual annual contribution limits of $1,000 to nongroup entities and groups that are not political parties, and $5,000 to political parties.

• Allows groups and nongroup entities to contribute up to twice the amount individuals are permitted to contribute to the same recipient.

• Increases joint campaign contribution limits for governor and lieutenant governor from $1,000 per individual and $2,000 per group to $3,000 and $6,000 respectively.

• Requires the commission to adjust all contribution limits biennially beginning in 2023 based on the Consumer Price Index for Urban Alaska, rounded to the nearest $50 increment, effective May 1 of each applicable year.
