Each school district shall establish and provide a character development program for students in kindergarten through grade 12, approved by the state department.

For kindergarten through grade 12, programs must emphasize patriotism, responsibility, citizenship, kindness, respect for authority and property, honesty, charity, self-control, racial/ethnic/religious tolerance, and cooperation.

For grades 9-12, instruction must include workplace ethics, employment law, resume creation, career exploration, interview skills, conflict resolution, stress management, and resilience building.

For grades 11-12, instruction must include voting using primary and general election ballots.

All curriculum, literature, and materials for the character development program must be approved by the department before use in schools.
