Municipalities may regulate trapping to protect persons and property within their boundaries and may exempt trappers from ordinances for good cause.

Municipalities may enact ordinances requiring trap identification, signage or notice requirements for traps, restrictions on trap types likely to cause injury or damage, and prohibitions on trap placement in dangerous areas.

The bill applies to both home rule and general law municipalities.

State departments retain their existing powers: Department of Environmental Conservation for disease control, Department of Fish and Game for wildlife management, and Department of Public Safety for public health and safety.

Municipalities may not eliminate reasonable opportunities for subsistence trapping of game within their boundaries.

The Act takes effect January 1, 2022.
