HB 53 Summary

• Amends AS 14.03.080 to allow school districts to consider children of active duty military and National Guard members as residents for public school enrollment purposes

• Applies to students whose parent or guardian is transferred or pending transfer under official military orders to a military installation in Alaska from another installation in or outside the state

• Requires parents or guardians to provide written proof of state residence on an official document within 30 days of the student's first day of attendance

• Defines key terms: "military installation" includes bases, camps, posts, stations, and facilities under Department of Defense or Coast Guard jurisdiction; "residence" means the principal dwelling place of the active duty parent or guardian
