HB 83 Summary

• Enacts the Multistate Nurse Licensure Compact, allowing registered nurses and licensed practical nurses to practice across participating states under a single multistate license instead of obtaining separate licenses in each state.

• Establishes the Interstate Commission of Nurse Licensure Compact Administrators to coordinate nurse licensing and enforce compact rules across party states.

• Modifies Alaska nursing licensure requirements to allow applicants to obtain either a single-state license or multistate license, with multistate licenses recognized in all participating compact states.

• Creates provisions for disciplinary action against nurses holding multistate licenses and allows remote states to take limited enforcement actions against nurses practicing under multistate privilege.

• Takes effect January 1, 2022, and makes related amendments to Alaska statutes referencing nurse licensure under AS 08.68 and the new AS 08.69.
