Designates February 2022 as American Heart Month in Alaska in recognition of the ongoing fight against cardiovascular disease.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States and the second leading cause of death in Alaska, affecting over 24,000 Alaskans with estimated annual costs of $363 billion nationally.

Approximately 2,380 Americans die of cardiovascular disease daily, with about 805,000 heart attacks and 795,000 new or recurrent strokes occurring annually.

Urges all citizens to recognize the importance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training, calling 911 when symptoms occur, and installing automated external defibrillator programs in communities.

Encourages citizens to learn the warning signs of heart attack and stroke, noting that preventive and community-based strategies can increase survival rates and save thousands of lives annually.
