State Board of Education shall develop and periodically review a statewide civics education curriculum based on the civics portion of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services naturalization examination and primary source documents.

Civics curriculum must include systems of government used by Alaska Natives, with districts permitted to use the curriculum for student civics education.

School districts must report to the department describing civics courses offered and other civics education curriculum information as required by department regulation.

State Board of Education annual report to the legislature must now include a description of the civics education curriculum in the state public school system and civics courses offered in each district.

Act takes effect July 1, 2023.
