Alaska State Legislature urges United States Congress to immediately pass and implement the Hearing Protection Act to reclassify suppressors under the Gun Control Act rather than the National Firearms Act.

National Hearing Conservation Association supports firearm suppressors as an engineering noise control to reduce hazardous firearm noise exposures and prevent noise-induced hearing loss in firearms users.

In fiscal year 2020, Alaska received nearly $44,000,000 in grants for wildlife and sportfish restoration projects from excise tax revenue under the Pittman-Robertson Act, with reclassification of suppressors expected to generate one of the largest increases in such revenue in decades.

Suppressor manufacture in Alaska constitutes a viable economic development opportunity, including for remote communities.

Copies of the resolution shall be sent to U.S. Senators Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan, and U.S. Representative Don Young, members of the Alaska delegation in Congress.
