SJR 25 Summary

• Alaska State Legislature declares solidarity with Ukraine and condemns Vladimir Putin's invasion as illegal, unjust, and violating the United Nations Charter and international law.

• Legislature strongly endorses the swift and severe economic sanctions and export controls imposed by the United States on Russia and urges Congress and the President to consider additional measured sanctions.

• Legislature demands Russia immediately cease all hostilities, withdraw military forces from Ukraine's internationally recognized borders, end civilian bloodshed, and return to diplomacy.

• Resolution recognizes Ukraine's status as a democratic nation since 1991, its efforts to strengthen ties with the European Union and United States, and the patriotism shown by Ukrainian people defending their country against the largest European state-on-state attack since World War II.

• Copies of the resolution shall be sent to the U.S. President, Vice President, Congress leadership, Ukraine's President, Russia's President, Russian and Ukrainian ambassadors to the United States, UN Security Council members, and Alaska's congressional delegation.
