HB 262 Summary

• Landlords must provide written notice at least 90 days before increasing rent for a dwelling unit while rent is current.

• Upon termination of a rental agreement, if the landlord provided notice under this law, rent in a subsequent agreement cannot exceed the prior amount until after the increase date specified in the notice.

• If no notice was given before termination, rent in a subsequent agreement cannot exceed the prior amount until 90 days after the rental agreement was terminated or expired.

• The law applies only to rental agreements entered into on or after the effective date of the act.

• The act takes effect immediately upon passage.
