HB 340 Summary

• Identification cards expire on the person's birthday in the eighth year following issuance and may be renewed within one year of expiration upon proper application and payment of required fees.

• Identification card renewals may be conducted by mail or on the department's Internet website, except that cards may not be renewed by mail or online if the most recent renewal was completed by either of those methods.

• Removes the department's authority to issue identification cards with durations of less than eight years based on an applicant's authorized period of stay in the United States.

• Repeals AS 28.15.101(d) relating to driver's license provisions.

• Act takes effect immediately upon passage.
