HB 346 - Grants To Disaster Victims

• Modifies AS 26.23.090(b) to clarify governor authority to make financial grants to individuals and families affected by major disasters declared by the President, capped at the maximum amount authorized by 42 U.S.C. 5174(h).

• Adds new subsection (d) to authorize governor to make financial grants when the President does not declare a major disaster but the governor declares a disaster emergency.

• Limits grants under the disaster emergency provision to the greater of $50,000 or one-half of the maximum amount authorized by 42 U.S.C. 5174(h) for individual and family grants.

• Allows unit owners to use disaster grants to pay common expense liability associated with the disaster, with terms defined in AS 34.08.990.
