School districts providing educational services in juvenile facilities must establish and offer students a department-approved computer science program to the maximum extent practicable.

The program must total at least one-half credit hour of instruction in aggregate and may be delivered through multiple courses, telecommunications, or digital methods.

School districts must annually report to the commissioner on the percentage of students enrolled in, partially completing, or completing the program, with data separated by gender, age, and free/reduced-price meal eligibility.

Reports must include descriptions of any technology security or facility limitations preventing program delivery and actions being taken to address them.

The act takes effect July 1, 2025.
