HB 56 Summary

• Authorizes the veterinary board to adopt a certification process for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in Alaska.

• Expands veterinarian licensing qualifications to recognize the Program for the Assessment of Veterinary Education Equivalence certification in addition to existing credentials from accredited schools and other approved certifications.

• Exempts veterinarians from registering controlled substances (Schedule II, III, and IV) prescribed or dispensed to treat animals with the state's controlled substance prescription database.

• Removes the Board of Veterinary Examiners from receiving notifications when practitioners register with the controlled substance database.

• Takes effect immediately upon enactment.
