CSSB 166(JUD) - Alaska Mental Health and Psychedelic Medicine Task Force

• Establishes a legislative task force to prepare for potential FDA approval and medicalization of psychedelic medicines, focusing on policy recommendations for insurance and licensure requirements

• Task force must assess psychedelic medicine's potential use in treating Alaska's mental health crisis, chronic and terminal illnesses, and end-of-life care; consider implementation barriers and equitable access; and identify necessary legal and regulatory changes

• Task force composition includes three state commissioners (health, military and veterans' affairs, commerce), representatives from mental health organizations, Alaska Native communities, domestic violence survivors, medical professionals, University of Alaska faculty, and up to three additional members selected by the task force

• Task force must meet at least four times and submit recommendations to the legislature and governor by December 31, 2024

• Task force terminates when the First Regular Session of the Thirty-Fourth Alaska State Legislature convenes; members serve without compensation
