AK SB168

Creates new statute AS 16.05.197 requiring the state to provide monetary compensation to individuals whose game animals are seized and later found not guilty of violation or whose conviction is overturned on appeal or set aside.

Compensation amount equals the restitution value established in AS 16.05.925(b) for unlawfully taking the same species.

Applies to bear (black, brown, grizzly), bison, caribou, deer, elk, goat, moose, sheep, and musk ox.

Increases restitution values for unlawful animal taking: black bear from $600 to $1,080, brown/grizzly bear from $1,300 to $2,340, musk oxen from $3,000 to $5,400, and similar increases for other species.

Wolf and wolverine restitution values remain at $900 and $500 respectively (no change from prior law).
