SB 174 Summary

• Designates the Honor and Remember Flag as an official state symbol to recognize and honor armed forces members who died in the line of duty and their families, with design elements including a red field, blue and gold stars, white border, folded flag, and flame.

• Permits display of the Honor and Remember Flag at state capitol, court facilities, municipal offices, veterans memorials, and veterans cemeteries on eight designated days including Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Armed Forces Day, and Alaska Veterans' Poppy Day.

• Designates the Honor and Sacrifice Flag as an official state symbol to recognize firefighters and law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty, featuring blue, purple, white, and black fields, a red Maltese cross, gold shield, folded flag element, and flame.

• Permits display of the Honor and Sacrifice Flag at state capitol, court facilities, Department of Public Safety offices, state trooper stations, municipal offices, and law enforcement/firefighter memorials on six designated days including Peace Officers Memorial Day and International Firefighters Day.

• Prohibits state and municipal employees from being required to work solely for the purpose of displaying either flag and authorizes the commissioner of administration to adopt implementing regulations.
