Districts and the department may pay $5,000 annual incentive payments in January to teachers holding current and valid national board certification.

Districts and the department must reimburse teachers pursuing national board certification for all costs incurred, with reimbursement made on an ongoing basis and no later than 60 days after a teacher requests reimbursement.

The state department shall provide sufficient funding, subject to appropriation and in addition to regular state aid under AS 14.17, to districts to cover these incentive and reimbursement payments.

Districts and the department may provide additional monetary incentives to teachers beyond those required by this act.

The act takes effect July 1, 2024, and applies to contracts and collective bargaining agreements becoming binding on or after that date.
