CS for SB 73 Summary

• Establishes registration requirements for interior designers as a regulated profession under the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers, and Land Surveyors, adding one registered interior designer to the 13-member board.

• Allows persons holding valid interior design certificates from other states or countries to register in Alaska if they meet chapter requirements, and requires examination for new applicants in accordance with national standards.

• Expands the scope of "design professional" and professional services definitions throughout Alaska statutes to include registered interior design in procurement, liens, workers' compensation, and contract requirements.

• Includes transition provisions allowing current interior designers to continue practicing without registration until July 1, 2025, and allowing temporarily appointed interior designers to remain on the board pending appointment of a fully registered interior designer.

• Takes effect July 1, 2023, except for board appointment and transition provisions which take effect immediately.
