SB 81 Summary

• Changes victims' advocate appointment ratification from a joint session roll call vote to requiring separate approval by two-thirds of the full membership of the senate and two-thirds of the full membership of the house of representatives.

• Removes geographic restriction from victims' advocate salary, allowing compensation at Range 26 on the state salary schedule without limitation to Juneau-specific rates.

• Authorizes the senate president and house speaker to jointly appoint an acting victims' advocate if the advocate is unavailable to make the appointment themselves.

• Permits staff compensation under either the standard state salary schedule or, for positions requiring law license admission, under the schedule that includes both standard and location-based (l) provisions.

• Takes effect immediately upon passage.
