Alaska State Legislature affirms commitment to supporting small fishing-related businesses, families engaged in fishing, and preservation of the state's cultural fishing heritage.

Alaska seafood represents more than 60 percent of U.S. seafood harvested and is exported to approximately 100 countries globally.

Legislature calls on federal government to create an office of seafood policy within the U.S. Department of Agriculture to integrate domestic seafood into food security and supply chain policies.

Legislature urges federal agencies to include seafood businesses in all programs supporting American food producers and to implement the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Seafood Strategy.

Legislature requests improvements to U.S. trade policy including more reciprocal tariff structures for seafood, increased federal funding for product development and marketing, and enhanced seafood expertise in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.
