State troopers hired after June 30, 2006 would become eligible for the defined benefit pension plan instead of being required to participate in the defined contribution plan that applies to other employees hired after that date

Eligible state troopers in the defined contribution plan would have 90 days after the Act's effective date to make a one-time irrevocable election to transfer to the defined benefit plan

Transferred contributions from the defined contribution plan would be used to purchase credited service in the defined benefit plan on an actuarial equivalent basis, with enrollment retroactive to date of hire

State troopers who switch plans could retire with normal benefits at age 60 with 5 years of credited service as a state trooper, or with 20 years as a peace officer including at least 5 years as a state trooper
