Restaurants prohibited from providing prepared food in polystyrene foam (Styrofoam) disposable food service ware, effective January 1, 2026

State government banned from using or purchasing polystyrene foam disposable food service ware

Exemptions allowed for: food prepared or packaged outside Alaska, reusable foam coolers and ice chests, and areas affected by disaster emergencies

Restaurants may apply for exemptions if no affordable alternative product exists or if compliance would cause undue financial and logistical hardship

Restaurants and state may use up existing polystyrene foam inventory purchased before the effective date
