HB 26 - Statewide Public & Community Transit Plan

• Requires the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities to develop a statewide public and community transit plan in coordination with metropolitan planning organizations, local governments, communities, tribal entities, ferry operators, and the Alaska Railroad Corporation.

• Expands the department's transportation planning mandate to explicitly include public, tribal, and community transit programs in both alternative transportation studies and the comprehensive long-range intermodal transportation plan.

• Broadens the scope of transportation improvement planning from urban-only areas to include urban, rural, and remote areas throughout the state.

• Defines "tribal entity" as federally recognized Indian tribes under 25 U.S.C. 5130 and 5131, including their subdivisions, subsidiaries, and wholly-owned business enterprises.
