Proposes amending Article IV, Section 5 of the Alaska Constitution to change how the governor fills vacancies for supreme court justices and superior court judges

Removes the requirement that the Judicial Council nominate "two or more" candidates, instead allowing the governor to appoint from any person the council determines meets qualifications

Eliminates the formal "nomination" process by the Judicial Council, replacing it with a qualification "determination" process

Requires the proposed constitutional amendment to be placed before Alaska voters at the next general election for approval

Introduced February 28, 2025, by the House Rules Committee at the request of the Governor, referred to State Affairs, Judiciary, and Finance committees
