Alaska Legislature opposes efforts to change the name of North America's tallest mountain (20,310 feet) from Denali back to Mt. McKinley

"Denali" is the Koyukon Athabaskan name meaning "the high one" and has been used for thousands of years by Alaska Native peoples

The mountain was named "Mt. McKinley" in 1896 by prospector William Dickey after presidential candidate William McKinley of Ohio, who never visited Alaska

The U.S. Department of the Interior officially changed the name from Mt. McKinley to Denali in 2015 after decades of advocacy

Copies of the resolution will be sent to President Trump, Vice President Vance, the Secretary of the Interior, and Alaska's congressional delegation
