AK SB126

Authorizes the Commissioner of Corrections to reduce prisoner housing costs by consolidating existing facilities or placing prisoners in out-of-state facilities

Requires prisoners with more than seven years remaining on their sentence who are placed out-of-state to be housed separately from non-Alaska residents

Mandates the Department of Corrections to annually estimate and report cost savings from facility consolidation and out-of-state placements as part of budget submissions under AS 37.07.050

Permits the legislature to appropriate an amount equal to the estimated annual cost savings for education purposes
