Each Alaska school district must adopt policies regarding students with live head lice and bacterial conjunctivitis

Students with live head lice may remain in class until the end of the school day, but cannot return until a school nurse or health care provider confirms no live lice are present

Schools must provide parents of affected students with head lice treatment information and notify all classroom parents while protecting student privacy

Students with bacterial conjunctivitis must immediately leave the classroom and cannot return for at least 24 hours after starting medical treatment

Default procedures apply only to districts that have not adopted their own policies; the default requirements take effect 180 days after the initial mandate
