AK SJR13

Amends Article IV, Section 5 of the Alaska Constitution to change how the governor fills vacancies for supreme court justices and superior court judges

Removes the requirement that the Judicial Council provide "two or more" nominated candidates, allowing the governor to appoint from any person the council determines qualified

Changes the Judicial Council's role from "nominating" candidates to "determining" which candidates meet qualifications under Section 4 of the constitution

Requires the proposed constitutional amendment to be placed before Alaska voters at the next general election

Introduced on February 28, 2025 by the Senate Rules Committee at the request of the Governor
