Alaska Legislature reaffirms support for extending the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) and urges the federal administration to end tariffs on Canada and Mexico.

In 2024, Alaska imported over $1 billion from Canada (including $351 million in petroleum, $62 million in metals, $61 million in machinery) and exported over $614 million to Canada.

Canada supports 26,250 jobs in Alaska through direct employment (20,300) and Canadian-owned businesses (5,950).

The 25% tariffs on Canadian steel imposed in March 2018 caused a 37.8% drop in steel imports to Alaska by May 2019, with costs passed on to consumers and prompting retaliatory tariffs.

Resolution will be sent to President Trump, Prime Minister Carney, congressional leadership, and Alaska's congressional delegation ahead of the 2026 USMCA joint review.
