HB112 Summary

• Amends Section 41-16-21 of the Alabama Code to exempt purchases from health industry joint purchasing organization contracts from competitive bidding requirements for hospitals and campus medical facilities operated by state educational institutions or institutions receiving state funds.

• Applies exemption to pharmacies, pharmacy clinics, veterinary clinics and hospitals, medical teaching clinics, and health care clinics operated by eligible institutions.

• Excludes contracts associated with wireless communications equipment or services from the exemption.

• Requires that opportunity be given to minority-owned businesses when making purchases under this exemption.

• Effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
