HB149 Summary

• Amends Section 40-12-244 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to add a new exemption category for veterans who are 100 percent permanently and totally disabled from motor vehicle license tax and registration fees.

• Exemption applies to one passenger vehicle registered in the name of the disabled veteran and requires the use of a disabled veteran distinctive license plate issued pursuant to Section 32-6-130.

• Exemption is claimed through presentation of proper identification on forms prescribed by the state Department of Revenue, consistent with existing exemptions for service-connected disabled veterans.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor, or upon otherwise becoming law.
