HB262 Summary

• Amends Section 32-6-272 to require the Alabama Forestry Commission to prepare lists of certified volunteer and federal fire departments, and the Firefighters' Personnel Standards and Education Commission to prepare lists of paid or part-paid fire departments, with submission to county officials by December 1 annually.

• Requires both commissions to maintain and submit lists of all members of their respective fire departments to county license issuing officials by December 1 each year.

• Allows firefighters to obtain distinctive license plates by presenting proof of identification, with plates issued for a regular license fee but exempting the $3 additional fee.

• Permits widows or widowers of paid, part-paid, or volunteer firefighters who die in the line of duty to receive a distinctive license plate upon written request, with death in line of duty defined as circumstances resulting in a death benefit under Section 11-43-144.

• Establishes Class C misdemeanor penalties for anyone who falsely obtains or certifies an individual to obtain a distinctive firefighter license plate.
