HB328 Summary

• Amends Alabama Code Sections 31-9-6 and 31-9-9 to authorize the Governor and local emergency management agencies to enter into mutual aid agreements with federally recognized Indian tribes.

• Expands the Governor's existing authority to enter reciprocal aid agreements with other states and the federal government to explicitly include federally recognized Indian tribes.

• Allows local emergency management directors to develop mutual aid agreements with federally recognized Indian tribes located within Alabama for reciprocal emergency management aid and assistance.

• Mutual aid agreements are limited to furnishing or exchanging food, clothing, medicine, supplies, engineering services, emergency housing, police services, health services, fire fighting, rescue, transportation, construction services, and equipment, with reimbursement of costs and expenses.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
