HB381 Summary

• Amends Section 33-6A-3.1 of the Alabama Code to add Lake Jordan to existing vessel restriction regulations that currently apply to Lake Harris (Lake Wedowee), Lake Martin, and Weiss Lake.

• Prohibits houseboats on Lake Jordan beginning July 1, 2011, defining houseboats as residence boats or recreational vessels with marine sanitation devices, galleys, and sleeping quarters.

• Prohibits recreational vessels exceeding 26 feet 11 inches in length with top speeds over 60 miles per hour on Lake Jordan beginning October 1, 2010.

• Prohibits recreational vessels exceeding 30 feet 6 inches in length on Lake Jordan beginning July 1, 2011, with exceptions for certain vessels licensed and in use on July 1, 2010.

• Exempts law enforcement, public safety, search and rescue, scientific research, medical vessels, and sailboats dependent on wind propulsion from all prohibitions; permits may be issued for temporary use and grandfathered vessels that meet sewage standards and are moored at certified facilities.
