HB384 Summary

• Creates the Alzheimer's Disease Task Force composed of state officials, industry representatives, persons with Alzheimer's disease, caregivers, and community organization representatives to assess dementia's impact on Alabama residents.

• Task force shall examine existing long-term care services, healthcare resources, quality measures, public safety capacity, and identify gaps in services for persons with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.

• Task force must evaluate 15 specific areas including dementia-specific training requirements, availability of memory screening services, geriatric-psychiatric units, assisted living options, research support, and healthcare disparities for minority populations.

• Task force shall hold public meetings, utilize webcasts to gather feedback, and submit a State Alzheimer's Disease Plan with findings and recommendations to the Governor and Legislature no later than March 1, 2011, at which time the task force terminates.

• Department of Mental Health provides administrative support; members serve without compensation; task force recommendations are not considered medical protocols or standards of care.
