HB400 Summary

• Reduces Alabama residency requirement for veterans' educational benefits from one year to 30 days immediately prior to entrance into service.

• Applies the 30-day residency requirement to veterans and their family members (wives, widows, children) applying for educational benefits.

• Allows alternative eligibility for family members of totally and permanently disabled veterans who can prove either 30 days residency prior to service entry or five years continuous residency in Alabama.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
