HB565 Summary

• Applies only to the City of Tuscaloosa and authorizes a referendum within 30 days for voters to determine if alcoholic beverages may be sold on Sundays.

• If a majority votes "Yes," licensed vendors may sell alcoholic beverages on Sundays between 12:00 P.M. (noon) and 9:30 P.M., with no time restrictions on New Year's Eve (December 31) after noon.

• Election must be conducted as a special election or at a subsequent municipal election, with notice published or posted at least three weeks in advance and costs paid by the municipality's general fund.

• If a majority votes "No," alcoholic beverages may not be sold on Sundays after 2:00 A.M. unless authorized by subsequent election.

• The City of Tuscaloosa may enact ordinances to regulate Sunday alcohol sales; this act becomes effective immediately upon passage and gubernatorial approval.
