• Proposes a local constitutional amendment to the Alabama Constitution of 1901 for Jefferson County requiring that interest earned from the one cent ($.01) sales tax be used exclusively for academic purposes only.

• Currently, Jefferson County's one cent sales tax must be used for public school purposes generally, including capital improvements and debt service on school obligations.

• Election on the proposed amendment shall be held on June 1, 2010, in accordance with Amendment 555 to the Constitution of Alabama of 1901 and state election laws.

• Election officials shall assign a ballot number and display the amendment as "Relating to Jefferson County, proposing an amendment to the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, to require the interest from the one cent ($.01) sales tax be used for academic purposes only" with Yes/No voting options.
