HB782 Summary

• Amends Section 7 of Act 248 (1975) to establish a special index fee of $6 collected by the Shelby County judge of probate for each real property instrument, personal property instrument, and other documents filed for record.

• Of the $6 fee collected, $4 is designated for initial installation costs and additional equipment for the probate office, while $2 is designated for operating expenses of the Shelby County Constituents' Office.

• The Shelby County Constituents' Office fund shall be managed by the chair of the Shelby County Legislative Delegation Office.

• All special index fees must be deposited into the county treasury and credited to a special fund, with excess funds available for probate office operations at the judge's discretion.

• The act becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
