Honors and commends Rilee White of Vestavia Hills Elementary Central School for winning First Place in the 2010 Alabama Men's Hall of Fame Essay Contest.

The essay contest is a pilot program coordinated by Samford University School of Education with participation from four Birmingham-area elementary schools whose 4th grade classes study Alabama History; Rilee's essay focused on George Washington Carver.

Rilee White is a 10-year-old Birmingham native who received the Citizenship Award as a 4th grader and won First Place from Birmingham Ballet for art in a performance of The Nutcracker as a 3rd grader.

She participates in extracurricular activities including soccer, dance, gymnastics, figure skating, and cheerleading, and plans to pursue a career as a veterinarian.

Rilee aspires to become a published author, has attended the Young Writer's Conference at University of Alabama at Birmingham, and has already written two books with a third in progress.
