HJR1042 Summary

• Creates the Alabama Chapter of the Multi-State Citizens' Commission on Homeowners Insurance to study the homeowners insurance crisis in South Alabama.

• Commission composition includes one House member appointed by the Speaker, one Senate member appointed by the President Pro Tempore, two South Alabama consumers appointed by the Lieutenant Governor, three South Alabama consumers appointed by the Governor, and the presiding officers of Mobile and Baldwin County Commissions.

• Commission membership must reflect racial, gender, geographic, urban and rural, and economic diversity of the state, with a report to the Legislature on compliance by the second legislative day of the 2011 Regular Session.

• Commission shall report findings, conclusions, and recommendations to the Legislature no later than the fifth legislative day of the 2011 Regular Session, after which it dissolves.

• Commission limited to six meetings maximum with total expenditures not exceeding $5,000; members receive regular legislative compensation, per diem, and travel expenses for meeting attendance.
