Commends George William Roy for 49 years of dedicated public service to the City of Calera and State of Alabama.

Roy served as Mayor of Calera during three separate terms (1965-1968, 1972-1980, and 1984-2009) and held multiple other local positions including Council Member, Fire Department member, and High School trustee.

Roy was a United States Navy veteran deployed to the South Pacific in the mid-1940s and worked as General Manager of Central Maintenance at Trinity Industries from 1948-1993.

Roy received the 1993 Distinguished Service Award of the Alabama League of Municipalities and the 2001 Public Servant of the Year Award of Leadership Shelby County; was elected president of the League of Municipalities in 2002.

Roy has been married since 1948 with five children, 12 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren; has been a member of Calera United Methodist Church since 1957.
