Commends Allison Black, a 13-year-old eighth-grade student at Ider School in DeKalb County, for winning the 2010 Alabama State Spelling Bee on March 6, 2010, at Oak Mountain High School in Birmingham.

Black won the 83rd annual state spelling bee competition in the tenth round by correctly spelling the word "disparage," defeating 58 other talented contestants who had previously won their school and county contests.

Black's victory earned her the right to represent Alabama in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., and she had previously been first runner-up in the statewide competition the prior year.

The Legislature of Alabama honors and commends Black for her achievement and extends heartiest congratulations and best wishes for success in the national competition and all future endeavors.
