House Joint Resolution mourning the death of Mr. Leon Hewett Morris, an Alabama educator and community leader who died at age 66.

Mr. Morris was born in Eufaula in June 1943, graduated from Alabama A&M University, and began teaching mathematics at age 19 in Henry County, later teaching at Rebecca Comer High School and Barbour County High School in Clayton until his retirement.

He participated in sit-ins and marches during the Civil Rights Movement as a student and served as an active member of the Alabama Democratic Conference and one term as a County Commissioner in Barbour County.

Mr. Morris is survived by his wife Ruth Anglin (married more than 30 years), seven children, two grandchildren, and five siblings; he was preceded in death by three siblings.

The Alabama Legislature records his death with deep sadness and extends heartfelt sympathy to his grieving family.
